World of Vina Background Notes
These were special armors made during the Great War. There were nine armors made, and nine of Calen’s best leaders and warriors were chosen to wear them. They became Calen’s elite strike force. The armors granted the wearer powers beyond anything any one had ever seen in armor. Each armor was unique to the soldier wearing it, and all could fly. The nine became known as the Vengeance Warriors of Calen, and soon became something to fear by their enemies. They were protectors of the people, avenging those innocents lost in the war.
The Warriors chose alternate names fore them selves, keeping their true names a secret. Their names were: White Wing, Black Night, Night Hawk, White Lightning, Shadow, Blue Thunder, Red Dawn, Red Wing, White Panther. One warrior stood out above the rest, his name; White Wing. He was more vicious than any of the others and his enemies came to fear him above all others. His skill with the armor was unmatched by any of the others, and his skill on the battlefield was no less superb. There was no set leader for the Vengeance Warriors, as they all followed the crown, but if any one could be thought of as the leader among the warriors, it would be White Wing.
Things were not all perfect with the armors. The armors hid a deadly secret, a curse. The true might and power of the Vengeance armors was locked behind three seals of blood. Near the end of the war one of the armors accidentally released all three seals. The result was a three-year blood bath eventually ended with the death of Tunar royal family, the ruling family of Calen’s neaboring kingdom. While this did end the war, the brutality of it was horrifying. Once all three seals are broken, the magic of the armor enhances and expands on the wearer’s grief and anger. They are filled with an unyielding rage and need fore vengeance. They become almost unstoppable, the regular powers and abilities of the armor are enhanced almost doubled. They gain new abilities, and the only thing on the wearer’s mind, is vengeance. Certain parts of the armor will change to the color of blood red as a warning that the seals are broken. These are the wings, the bands around the lower arms and legs, and triangular markings at the eyes streaking back to the ears. Once a seal is broken, they will reseal after period of a few days if another seal is not broken before hand. The three seals are:
- Seal of thy Enemies Blood. This seal is broken when the blood of an enemy, slain by the warrior, comes into contact with the armor.
- Seal of thy Allies Blood. This seal is broken when a friend or comrade of the warrior dies in his arms and the armor comes into contact with his blood.
- Seal of thy Own Blood. This seal is broken when a blood relative (mother, father, sibling, etc.) dies in the warrior’s arms again, bathing the armor in their blood.
Afterwards Shadow and Black Night stayed active as personal bodyguards to the crown. Red Dawn, the one who had broken the three seals, died by his own hands unable to live with what he had done, and without his family. The rest retired, storing their armors in special trunks made by he royal mage blacksmith, so that none but the armors master could open it. The mage blacksmith incorporated a triangular crest with three sapphire gems into the trunks. This was more than just decoration. The three gems represented the three seals. When a seal is broken the corresponding gem would become a ruby.
White Wing however, did more than retire. After accepting his trunk he disappeared. No one could find him; it was if he no longer existed. But many believed he was still out there somewhere, probably using his true name, or another name. As time went by the armors were forgotten, fading into myth and legend. Even the two guarding the crown eventually faded into the past. Few remembered the warriors.
